Takuya Shinkado, CAIA, CFA is a Vice President and a member of Corporate Development team in Tokyo at Athene Life Re, which is part of Apollo, a high-growth, global alternative asset manager. He focuses on Athene’s corporate development strategies and reinsurance businesses in Japan.
Takuya’s professional journey boasts a diverse background. Prior to joining Athene Life Re in September 2023, he held structuring roles at global investment banks i.e., Credit Suisse (2022-2023; equity & fund derivatives structurer), Goldman Sachs (2019-2022; equity derivatives structurer), and Société Générale (2010-2019; structured product engineer).
Over the years, Takuya keenly observed the surging interest in Quantitative Investment Strategies (QIS) among both professional and retail investors, a trend that gained momentum since the mid-2010s in Japan. His focus, until his recent transition, revolved around crafting bespoke QIS solutions and structured/alternative investment solutions, such as Hedge Funds (HF) and Private Equity (PE) offerings etc, tailored specifically for Japanese clients.
What sets QIS apart is its core reliance on statistical models, the utilization of historical market data (including intraday data taken at intervals of less than a second), and a profound understanding of market microstructure dynamics. This confluence of factors makes QIS a fascinating blend, bridging the realms of technical analysis and alternative investment solutions.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and a Master of Science degree in Mathematics both from Kyoto University. He is All but Dissertation in Mathematics at Kyoto University, a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) and passed the level III examination of Chartered Market Technician (CMT). He is also a Chapter Executive of CAIA Japan since March 2022.
